The graduation film by the pleasantly deranged Dries Marchal was intended to consist of a series of separate films that were elaborately connected to each other. Plans were made for transitions between styles, cameras, and narrative strategies. However, none of these plans were followed. Each day of shooting we made a new film of which we discarded all pre-existing plans at the beginning of the day. Because the film is an ode to the director's own doom-obsessed and fragmented thoughts, it was justified that he abandoned the script on the day of shooting. Despite a sometimes confusing process, we ended up with a film that not only accurately translated Dries' chaos, but was also incredibly interesting as a DP. Starting from scratch every day, and working with a cinema camera, an eight millimeter analog camera, a night vision camera, and an Insta 360, was a very rewarding method of working to experiment with.
